Interested in Breast Augmentation?
Breast enlargement and augmentation are, by far, the most popular cosmetic surgeries in almost every location around the world. For many women, the way they feel about their bodies and their femininity is directly linked to the size and shape of their breasts, and their personal body image can be dramatically altered following breast enhancement surgery – be it in the form of augmentation, lift or reduction. |
In South Africa, breast augmentation and breast enlargement surgery are just as popular as anywhere in the world and they are certainly the most common plastic surgery procedures in my practice. I believe that small breasts are often a major concern for many ladies and deciding to enhance the breasts is a life changing step for many of my patients.
The actual procedure is usually very straightforward, but it is often a daunting process for patients to obtain information on the details of the operation, breast augmentation prices and an explanation of the techniques used. |
The primary reason for the confusion is the fact that many different approaches and placements are offered by different surgeons and there are a large variety of implants available.
Implant options range from silicone to saline and from rough to smooth textures. Depending on your body type Dr. Wilkinson will be able suggest the most suitable option for you.
Revolutionary Breast Augmentation Simulator: During your consultation Dr Wilkinson will assist you in choosing the correct size implant for your specific body shape. Using the new VECTRA 3D camera and Sculptor software, a high resolution 3D photograph is taken, which can be viewed from all angles and rotated as needed. |

|
You will then be able to select the different sized and shaped implants and view the change in appearance in 3D. VECTRA helps patients to make a more informed decision about their surgery.
Slim, small-breasted women are usually advised to have the implant inserted under the muscle, which covers the implant. Incisions are made in the armpit, at the lower border of the areola, or in the crease beneath the breast. A pocket is thereby created to cater for the implant.. |
 |
In patients with adequate breast tissue and who have minimal ptosis of the breasts, I would suggest that the implant be placed in front of the muscle. It is usually not necessary that the nipple be transposed higher on the breast, however if this is required, a breast lift can be performed with the breast augmentation. The surgery usually takes between an hour-and-a-half to two hours, and is performed mostly under conscious sedation.
Be prepared for two to three days of acute pain following breast augmentation. Bandages are removed after five days, although you should be up and about within a day or two. For two weeks following surgery, you may not drive or lift your arms above waist height.
Cost: Breast Surgery is usually between R40 000 - R55 000. This a guideline price, please be aware that different doctors will charge different prices and that generally Medical Aids will not cover these procedures. You will need to check with your Medical Aid first to see what their policy is. We will assist with motivation letters for Medical Aids if required.
Dr Nerina Wilkinson's has a private practice and full medical aid rates are not charged by her. |
