With winter fast approaching, it’s time to think about adjusting your hair care routine to ensure your curls stay soft and shiny throughout the colder months. In winter, we tend to crank up the heaters and open fewer windows, and this dry air combined with static electricity can wreak havoc on your hair. So, give your tresses a little extra TLC with this handy guide from Dr. Miracle’s and keep your hair looking smooth and silky all winter long.
1.Pre-poo: Pre-pooing is the process of applying a conditioning treatment to hair before starting the cleansing & conditioning process. This will add extra moisture to hair follicles, leaving hair more manageable. Once treatment has been applied, cover your hair with a plastic cap and leave for at least 30 minutes. Apply heat for best results.
Suggested product: Dr. Miracle’s Deep Conditioning Treatment (177ml, R89.99)
2.Cleanse Use a conditioning shampoo to avoid avoid moisture- and protein-loss. It cleanses the hair without stripping it of the nutrients it needs to stay soft and smooth. Wash your hair at least twice to make sure you properly rinse your pre-poo.
Suggested product: Dr. Miracle’s Conditioning Shampoo (355ml, R94.99)
3.Condition vs. Masque As you have already pre-poo’d your tresses with a conditioning treatment, use a lightweight conditioning formula to avoid build-up and heaviness on your hair. Once cleansed and slightly towel dried, apply a small amount of conditioner to your roots and hair, massage into your scalp gently for a minute, comb with a wide tooth comb and rinse.
Suggested product: Dr. Miracle’s Curl Care Nourishing Conditioner (360ml, R99.99)
If you have not pre-poo’d, opt for a hair masque. A masque will renew damaged hair and restore elasticity, leaving your hair with a brilliant shine. You should only apply a masque every two weeks to avoid product build-up. Apply the treatment to freshly washed hair and leave for 20 minutes before rinsing.
Suggested product: Dr. Miracle’s Double Deep Moisturizing Masque (340ml, R99.99).
4.Strengthening Your hairline is at high risk for breakage during winter, especially if you wear beanies, caps and hats or have braids. After the cleansing and conditioning process, apply a nourishing treatment to your hairline and style as usual. Applying the treatment to the affected area every day will ensure best results.
