Professional Beauty draws the crowds

Some 17,372 industry professionals visited the Professional Beauty Johannesburg Expo, the biggest trade show of its kind in Africa, which ran at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on 28 and 29 August.
Leading brands in the beauty, nails, skincare, salon and spa equipment and medical aesthetics sectors were represented at the show, such as Environ, Dermalogica, Elemis, Gelish, Morgan Taylor, Young Nails, Bio Sculpture, Calgel OPI, Kalahari, pHformula, Black Pearl, Artistic, IBD, Phytomer, Skin Doctors, Priori, Beaucience, Lilian Terry International, nailsforu, Six Skin Care, Spalicious, Ocean Therapy BTL, Lumenis, Viora, Alma Lasers, Syneron, Cocoon, Venus Concept, Extreme Lashes, The Lash Collection, Luscious Lashes, Kryolan, MUD, Nouveau Contour, among many others.
“There has been a much higher quality of interaction from a business point of view at this year’s Professional Beauty,” said Michelle Roberts from Black Pearl. “Professional Beauty 2016 was a very good show for us,” commented Derek Terry of Lilian Terry International. “We generated several good leads from the show,” commented Carina Franck of Kalahari.
“Shows like Professional Beauty are a massive billboard for your brand.” “The show has been great – we’ve had so many enquiries it’s been unbelievable,” stated Elizma Smith of Extreme Lashes. “We had so many people visit our stand on the first day of the show that we could have done with three extra staff members to handle all the enquiries. Professional Beauty unveils winners

Over 300 guests attended the prestigious annual Professional Beauty Awards and Industry Awards, which took place on 28 August at Room Five in Rivonia, Johannesburg. CEO of Professional Beauty, Mark Moloney, presented the opening address before popular comedian Mel Miller performed his routine, leaving the guests in stitches. Brent Harris & Thee Jam provided the live music.
Hashini Gerach of The Spa at The Oyster Box Umhlanga was judged to be Therapist of The Year. Nominees were: Andrea Appel (Origin Skin Studio) and Farah Essack (The Laser Beautique).
Joanne de Wet of The Spa at The Twelve Apostles Hotel won the Spa/Salon Manager of the Year Award. Nominees were: Cecilia Labuschagne (Beauty Studio Potchefstroom) and Marian Nelson (Origin Day Spa Potchefstroom).
Aronia Day Spa in Houghton won the Day Spa of The Year Award. Nominees were: Hammam Turkish Bath & Spa (Pretoria) and Soulstice Day Spa (Clearwater).
In the Hotel Resort Spa of The Year category, Umngazi River Bungalows & Spa Port St Johns triumphed. Nominees were The Valley Lodge & Spa and Arabella Spa.
The Salon of the Year (3 Rooms and Less) category was won by Madeleen Health & Beauty Studio Stellenbosch. Nominees were Skin & Nail Lounge (Bryanston) and Origin Skin Studio (Potchefstroom).
The new category, Mens Grooming Salon of the Year, was won by Glasshouse Rejuvenation for Men. Nominees were Hines & Harley Men’s Grooming Lounge and M.E.G The Skin & Body Experts.
Salon of the Year (4 Rooms and More) was won by Professional Skin Care Lab (Parktown North). Nominees were RUB Salon and Chique Skin Technology.
The Aesthetic Clinic of the Year category was won by Sheer Touch Houghton Estate. Nominees were The Laser Beautique Morningside and 15 on Seventh Medical Spa.
RUB Salon won the Nail Salon of the Year category. Nominees were Yemaya Spa – Cavendish and Nail & Beauty Studio.
Lomaphungo H Dungo of SOHO Sandton won the inaugural Nail Technician of the Year Award. Nominees were Nadia Erasmus of Nadz Hope Nails@ Style on Vredekloof Cape Town and Shantel Crous – independent nail technician (Bloemfontein).
In terms of the Industry Awards, which are voted on by the industry, Six Skin Care won the Best Customer Care – Skincare category. Nominees were Environ, TheraVine and Dermalogica.
Bio Sculpture triumphed in the Best Customer Care – Nail Care category. Nominees were OPI, Young Nails and Sparkle Cosmetics.
Smart Buy was the winner of the Best Supplier – Equipment/Supplies category. Nominees were Leonelda, Upfront and Professional Nail & Beauty Supplies.
Dermalogica won the award for Best Training. Nominees were OPI, TheraVine and RégimA.
The Best Marketing category was won by OPI. Nominees were Dermalogica, Environ and Sparkle.
Tanya van der Walt won the Best Sales Representative award. Nominees were Andrew Boberg, Marlieze Kuhn and Shivani Ramgoram.
