Established in South Africa in 1934 Carst & Walker is a substantial importer and distributor of chemical raw materials which find application in the cosmetics, adhesive, coatings, food, paper, plastics and rubber industries.

The company has offices and warehousing facilities in all the major centres in
South Africa
and represents several multinational manufacturers of chemicals and suppliers of machinery and equipment used in these industries, most are represented on an exclusive basis. Through our global network we can source virtually any raw material or product branded or generic.

Our Principal’s laboratories have been applying formulation expertise for more than 20 years and we provide this assistance and expertise to customers free of charge. For Personal Care
* Cocoa butter/Shea butter –a range of quality butters for use in lotions and creams.

* Film formers - Avalure® polymers create effective films for nail polishes mascaras sunscreen products and liquid makeups.

* CARBOPOL® RHEOLOGY MODIFIERS - exceptional thickeners suspending agents and stabilisers utilised in a wide variety of personal care products.

* Fragrances - Drom fragrances for all applications: fine fragrances toiletries hair skin care and home care.

* Hectorite based thickeners – Bentone Gels from Elementis, highly effective in colour cosmetics and anti-perspirants - as well as effective in sunscreens.

* Lanolin and lanolin derivatives - cosmetic and pharmaceutical grade products. Naturally derived exceptional performance and outstanding versatility.

* Ester based emollients - For skin care colour cosmetics and hair care applications - moisturising, lubricating, protecting, conditioning and softening properties. Heavy medium or light emolliency.

* Stearic acid - Used as a cost effective emulsifier

* White oils: Sonneborn (previously Crompton) range of BP grade white oils and petrolatums suitable for use in all personal care applications including lotions creams Sun Tan products and hair care products.

* Colours - a full range of water and oil soluble colours for the personal care and household market.

* Xanthan gum - effective and versatile rheological modifiers providing and improving textural qualities pouring characteristics suspension and cling.

Naturally derived thickeners - able to viscosify and reduce irritation - ideal for use in cleansing applications. Easy to pour or or pumpable products can be created. 

* Actves - a range of actives from Mibelle which treat a variety of skin and hair conditions - Anti-aging, Moisturising, Natural sunscreens, Skin Protection, Anti-Cellulite and Shaping

* Emulsifiers - Pemulen® polymeric emulsifiers are high molecular weight cross linked copolymers of acrylic acid and a hydrophobic co-monomer.

* Fixatives – suitable for all hair styling applications with a broad range of hold and stiffness levels from soft touchable hold to a firm crisp finish. All resistant to humidity and low flaking.
